Christmas Loan Periods
From Wednesday 10 December, most items you borrow from the Library and Teaching Resources Centre will be issued until Wednesday 14 January 2009. Yellow Band items will be subject to the usual loan periods.
LRC Postgraduate Learning Zone
The LRC is launching a quiet study zone for postgraduate students at the beginning of the 2008-09 academic year. This new facility is located on the ground floor in the Library. Features include access to the wireless network, tub chairs with writing tablets, study tables and a bean bag! This zone will provide a quiet space for postgraduates to use for studying in both a comfortable and relaxed environment. For more information on this zone please ask a member of staff in the LRC or contact us on 01267 676780.
Assignments
A reminder that students will need to hand in their assignments to the Library (not the Faculty Offices) for the new academic year. There is a new assignment submission form on the Intranet at http://www2.trinity-cm.ac.uk/formsstudents/assignment%20form.pdf.

Yellow Bands
We are pleased to announce an extension to the Yellow Band loan period. Yellow Band items can now be borrowed for two days and can be returned at any time before the LRC closes on the due date. Please note that Yellow Band items cannot be renewed and should be returned on the due date to avoid a fine.

This electronic resource is available for College staff and students to access:
PsycARTICLES is a psychology database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe Publishing Group:

Summer loan periods
From Wednesday 11th June, most items can be taken out over the Summer vacation, and will be issued until Wednesday 1st October 2008. Yellow Band items will be subject to the usual loan periods.
Health Science Collections
The usual loan periods apply to all items in the Health Science collections until 25th July. From 25th July 2008, Health Science books can be borrowed until Monday 8th September 2008.
Find out about new LRC resources!
Ever wondered how to find out about new resources arriving in the Library and Teaching Resources Centre? You can now access a list of new items using HIP, the LRC catalogue. Simply follow these steps:
1. Go to HIP at http://hip.trinity-cm.ac.uk
2. Click the "Search" tab at the top middle of the page
3. Select "New Books" from the blue menu bar
4. From the display below, click on the new book heading showing the most recent dates
5. A list of new books and other resources will appear. Just click on the title of a resource to find out more information.Both the Library and Teaching Resources Centre also have a new resources display allowing you to browse through our latest acquisitions. The display in the Library is located just to the right of the main entrance, and in the Teaching Resources Centre the display is situated opposite the computers next to the Religious Education collection.

LRC catalogue tutorial
The LRC now has a comprehensive online tutorial covering how to search the LRC catalogue, HIP, and how to find resources in the Library and Teaching Resources Centre. The tutorial covers all levels and is suitable both for beginners and customers already familiar with the LRCwho would like to enhance their knowledge.

LRC Blackboard area
The LRC now has an area on the Trinity College Blackboard system which features user guides to LRC electronic resources, such as databases and e-books, a LRC blog with information about websites and resources of interest and a discussion board for users to air their comments. National Library of Wales
The National Library of Wales have recently introduced a new section of their website aimed at users in Higher Education. As well as featuring links to relevant information about the National Library, this new section of the website allows members of Welsh Higher Education institutions to register online for membership and a National Library Athens account. Registration enables access to all the Library's electronic resources from home or work, and access to the Library's catalogue and services using a reader ticket. CLA Trial Photocopying and Scanning Licence
Trinity College Carmarthen subscribes to the Copyright Licensing Agency's (CLA) Trial Photocopying and Scanning Licence. This licence permits Trinity College to make digital copies of extracts from books, journals and magazines and supply them to students enrolled on a course of study via a secure network e.g. Blackboard. The licence facilitates scanning from UK publications only, and the material must be held by the Learning Resources Centre.
This new service will be administered from the Learning Resources Centre on behalf of Faculties. Please see the CLA Trial Photocopying and Scanning Licence page for further information.
Laptop computers
Laptop computers are now available for students to borrow from the Library and Teaching Resources Centre. Laptops can connect to the Internet on campus using the College wireless network. Please ask at the Information Point for further details.
National Library Of Wales extends its collection with e-books
The National Library of Wales (NLW) has supplemented its book collection with 295 eBooks on Welsh interests and culture, enabling further remote access to its resources for registered users. To qualify for a NLW Athens password and access the resources currently involves physically going into the library to drop off a paper membership form and two proofs of identity. (The Trinity Athens username and password you have been given will not be suitable to access these eBooks). However, the NLW may soon be changing their membership requirements to allow online registration. Introducing the Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA) comprehensive licence
Under The NLA Comprehensive Licence, some newspapers collectively give us permission to reproduce their material to be used in Trinity College Carmarthen. The Comprehensive Licence that we have now signed up to allows us to reproduce pictures as well as text including graphics, advertisements and photographs. We can also copy information from a small range of Welsh newspapers and other publications including national newspapers and periodicals such as the Economist. Our annual fee is re-distributed back to the publishers encouarging them to continue to produce a high standard of content. If you have any questions about the Comprehensive Licence or queries about copying newspapers please contact the LRC.
Suggest a Resource!
We are now giving you the opportunity to suggest new resources to be added to stock. You are welcome to nominate books, videos, CDs and artefacts which you think could be useful to your course or for background research. If you feel that we don't stock the resources you require, please do complete our online form or fill in a form in the Library or Teaching Resources Centre and make your views count! We can't guarantee to stock all nominated resources, but we promise to look at every suggestion we receive.
PACT / Linc y Canolbarth
Members of the LRC now have access to resources from a wide range of local public and academic libraries following the introduction of two borrowing schemes in the West Wales area. The PACT scheme covers Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and enables students, staff and other LRC members to select resources from libraries in the area and borrow them through the LRC. The Linc y Canolbarth scheme covers the University of Wales Lampeter, the University of Wales Aberystwyth and Ceredigion public libraries. Postal Loans Service

New Resource for Trinity College Staff - JORUM
JORUM allows staff to search, browse, preview, download, review, reuse and repurpose teaching resources. This free online repository service hosts a range of learning and teaching resources, covering a variety of subject areas and educational levels. You can find out more about this service at http://www.jorum.ac.uk/getstarted/jorum_intro.htm.
Access to the JORUM service is provided by Athens login - those staff who do not currently have an Athens username and password can obtain one by emailing Athens@trinity-cm.ac.uk. Before using JORUM, staff will need to register with the service. To register follow these simple steps:
1. Go to http://www.jorum.ac.uk/user/register/index.html
2. Enter your Athens username and password when prompted
3. Fill in the form, providing your contact details.
4. Submit and wait for an email from JORUM to confirm that your account is active.
KnowUK / NewsUK
Two new databases are now available for College staff and students to access:
KnowUK is an online service developed to provide UK reference information. It claims to be the most comprehensive resource of its kind, offering a complete library of UK information.

JISC: Plagiarism Advisory Service
JISC are supporting a plagiarism advisory service based at Northumbria University. This service provides advice and guidance on all areas relating to plagiarism prevention and detection, providing information for both staff and students. The JISC plagiarism detection service is a UK based service to enable institutions and staff to carry out electronic comparison of students' work against electronic sources including other students' work.
ZETOC
What is ZETOC?
ZETOC is a new current awareness service developed by the British Library for higher education. It's a database of over 15 million articles and conference records from 20,00 journals (a complete journals listing is available on the ZETOC site). It covers every area of academic study, is updated daily and covers a period from 1993 onwards. The records include author, title and source details and you can send the results of your ZETOC search directly to your chosen email address.You can also use the ZETOC alert service to receive automatic email notification of tables of contents from new issues of any journals you select (this can be as soon as 72 hours after publication). You'll need the Athens username and password for this - if you haven't already got it, please ask at the Information Desk in the Library.
